Farmers Digital Solutions 1-866-668-5565 • www.todaypublicationsfd.net October 2025 Fall Roundup Edition 22 Harvest season is quickly approaching. One of the best parts of running the combine is getting a clear look at the inal harvest. It shows what happened throughout the year and provides some windshield time to plan for 2026. We have many test plots on our farm that help us evaluate different products. Interest in biologicals keeps growing—some go on with the planter, some with the sprayer—but ultimately there is mixing involved. Sometimes the mixes get a little complex. Our Mixmate setup keeps mixing and records straight without a fuss. We just had a customer stop by at the Farm Progress Show and said, “We saved so much money because of this system. It completely changed our operation. Mix time went from two hours to twenty minutes.” We love to hear those success stories! There are a lot of plant health issues this year in the corn. In our area, southern rust is a problem. Much of the corn has been sprayed for southern rust using airplanes, helicopters, and drones. All of those application methods can have streaks. It is probably more prevalent in drone applications. We used a drone on our farm, and I’m going to share a couple of things I observed. Right or wrong, here’s my two cents’ worth. I think many drone applications that are showing streaks were flown too low. It concentrates the chemical directly underneath the drone and does not give it a chance to spread out. Application height of the drone and speed do correlate; when the drone is flying slower and lower, it doesn’t tend to spread out as much and it drives the chemical straight into the crop. I even saw one helicopter pilot post a picture on social media showing the path of the crop being disturbed from the downwash of the helicopter.
