Farmers Digital Solutions 1-866-668-5565 • www.todaypublicationsfd.net JULY 2025 Maintenance Guide Edition 16 If you’ve ever asked, “Is there a perfect drone trailer design?”—you’re not alone. The answer? Ha! The “perfect” trailer is as elusive as the perfect weather forecast. But after another season in the field, we’ve learned what works for us, what doesn’t, and what you should consider for convenience, safety, and budget. Convenience: Size, Mobility, and Power Pickup-Mounted Systems: For maximum maneuverability and the ability to use a standard driver’s license, pickup-mounted systems are hard to beat. They’re great for smaller operations or when you need to get in and out of tight spots. Medium/Large Trailers: Need more capacity? Medium-sized trailers can be pulled by a pickup or full-sized truck, while the biggest setups (think multiple drones, large generators, and bulk chemical storage) may require a CDL. If you’re running a fleet of drones and need serious power and water, bigger is better. Powering Up: Generators and Pumps Generators: Last year, our 9.5 kW gas generator struggled to keep up with charging even one set of batteries. With more chargers and a larger drone (the P150), we upgraded to a 30 kW diesel generator. The benefits? Quieter operation, enough juice for four chargers, and backup power for the farm in the off-season. Is There a Perfect Drone Trailer Design? Let’s Get Real.
